Cyber Essentials certification

Cyber Essentials is a certification process endorsed by the Government to help business and organisations protect themselves against e-crime. Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment option, which is designed to be easy to follow. Cyber Essentials Plus takes your protection to the next level with verification of your cyber security undertaken by a Certification Body.

Whether you opt for Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus for your organisation, there are five security controls which are defined as:

Firewalls and Internet Gateways

Secure Configuration

Access Control

Malware Protection

Patch Management

Beyond this there are significant differences between the two levels of Cyber Essentials Protection. Essentials is focussed on external threats, whilst Essentials Plus requires an additional internal assessment and scan. As expected Essentials Plus drills much further into your data security - right down to end user workstations and mobile users.

What are the benefits of Cyber Essentials Plus?

Essentials Plus provides a much deeper understanding of the risk to your organisations data security

It demonstrates to your customers that you are serious about the data you hold

Tenders often list Cyber Essentials Certification as a prerequisite

Cyber Essentials Certification allows you to work with MOD organisations

Insurance agencies offer better premiums for accredited organisations

How can I become Cyber Essentials Certified?

Firstly decide between Essentials and Essentials Plus. You don’t have to hold Essentials to apply for Essentials Plus, but the requirements are far more comprehensive. The process will scan all systems with a series of on-site malware tests. As an IASME accredited body for Cyber Essentials, we can guide you through this process and take remedial action where required.
